Days 1 & 2: Out with the Old, In with the New!

Show of hands – how many of you have had to hire “professionals” for home repairs or car repairs? How many of you had an experience that went off w/out a hitch? We thought getting a new floor would be a cakewalk, but it seems we were wrong in thinking that they’d put their best foot forward. When looking for a flooring company we checked the BBB and we interviewed 3 companies. We finally went with someone a friend used because they “loved” their new tile so much. But I’m really thinking at this point I should’ve checked with Angie! We have a small galley kitchen with an eat-in area and a utility room that needed renovation. We're going from a hideous 22 yr-old linoleum to a porcelain tile. The square footage was supposed to require 2 days of work and they allotted 416 pieces of tile (10% overage). Two installers (Brian & helper) should have no trouble w/ such a small space, but they leave and come back between other gigs and at this point I think the distraction is causing them to be sloppy. We can’t walk on it, but from the entryways we can see some of the spacers on top of the tiles, not between the joints. They haven’t even started applying the grout yet. Instead of spreading the grout, they are spreading themselves too thin, methinks. We are currently on our 3rd day and there is no end in sight… just inconvenience of not being able to access the kitchen or the laundry or the doggie door! We shall see!
